Synetic inventiveness and unforgettable visuals will elevate Oscar Wilde’s fantastical story to yet another level.
There’s plenty to admire in the look of Synetic’s “Dorian Gray.” ...Pinha’s set picks up the evening’s art-world motif, in a series of frames that are used as screens for projections by Riki K. that resemble panels from a graphic novel. - The Washington Post
As with the previous Synetic shows I've worked on, the design process started with finding the aesthetic. My instinct was to stay away from anything that was period or plainly recognizable. All images should be evocative, not telling. The design team was interested in working with reflective and various surfaces. We discussed different options and chose four materials for the panels. Daniel Pinha designed a minimalistic and clean set that felt modern, but made other-worldly through costumes, projections, and lights. Both Daniel and Colin K. Bills (lighting designer) gave me a lot of options to work and collaborate with. I believe the great team work is demonstrated in this stylish show.
